Bar Italia Opens a Second London Site to Mark its 75th Anniversary

The iconic Soho coffee shop has expanded for the first time

75 years in business makes Bar Italia a bonafide London institution. Opened in 1949 by Lou and Caterina Polledri and now run by their grandchildren, Bar Italia is one of the best coffee bars in the world and is beloved by the people of Soho as a place for a coffee and cannoli in the morning and a pizza at 3am. It’s welcomed everyone from Al Pacino and Elizabeth Taylor to Mick Jagger and David Bowie through the doors, and if you’ve had a late night in Soho, you’ve likely dropped by in the middle of the night too.

Now for the first time in 75 years, Bar Italia has opened a second location at Outernet, which since its opening two years ago has become the most visited cultural attraction in the UK thanks to free immersive displays across its giant screens. The Polledri family have famously kept as many of Bar Italia’s original 1949 details as possible, so this partnership really is a mix of the old and the new.

Speaking about the new opening, the Polledri family said, “The original iconic Bar Italia is thrilled to announce our opening at Outernet. We are excited to collaborate with such a legendary space, bringing our rich heritage and passion for quality to this vibrant and dynamic location. This marks the perfect union of the original 1949 café with the world’s most modern and advanced tech building – a blend of timeless tradition and cutting-edge innovation.”
