Bar du Champagne Is Bringing Bubbles to Covent Garden

The bistro and Champagne bar opened its doors on Henrietta Street at the beginning of December

Bar du Champagne is one of our fave spots in Amsterdam and now a very similar bistro and wine bar, with the same name, has opened much closer to home. This Bar du Champagne has taken over the old Avobar site in Covent Garden, kitted the two-floor space (complete with heated outdoor terrace) out in vintage and reclaimed furniture, and stocked it with bubbles.

The wine and Champagne list includes rare and cult bottles like Champagne Pierre Peters Cuvée Rosé Alban, Pet Nat and Méthode Ancestrale natural fizz, other sparkling styles including Cava and Prosecco, still vintages from Burgundy and Bordeaux, and some unusual numbers such as Georgian Saperavi and Armenian Areni Noir. Most of the Bar du Champagne wines are biodynamic or organic and many of the producers that the bar works with use reduced or no added sulphites.

If you don’t fancy an entirely liquid visit, the Bar du Champagne food menu includes dishes like:

  • house marinated red peppers, anchovies and ricotta
  • Paxton & Whitfield cheese selection
  • duck rillettes with boozy cherries and toast
  • truffled Croque Monsieur
  • steak tartare with lardo toast
  • roasted cauliflower, comté and white wine sauce
  • pan roasted cod with herbed chervil hollandaise

So if you’re looking to explore the wide world of sparkling wine, this bar should be your first stop.
