baoziinn opened in soho

We’re always interested in a new Chinese restaurant in London but when it’s a new one from the team behind BarShu and Baozi Inn Newport then we get very excited indeed. This latest, called BaoziInn (yes, without the space) has recently opened on Romilly Street in Soho, on the opposite corner to BarShu and we’re happy to report that it’s definitely worth getting excited about. We like to think we know our dumplings and, simply put, you can get some of the best, most interesting dim sum in London here at the moment. The all-day menu features a range of Cantonese style dim sum but mixed with a few touches from Sichuan and Hunan. Across the board, the dumplings are well made, fresh, and delicious so you can’t really go wrong… but we do have some top tips.

From the ‘steamed’ section we loved the Fragrant Chilli Pork Baozi in Beetroot Juice Dough; the Ruby Prawn Dumplings in Beetroot Pastry; and the Savoury Hot and Sour Soup Filled Baozi in Spinach Juice Dough, which was one giant dumpling swimming in a little bowl of soup. From the Cheng Fen, rice rolls section there’s only two options, but the Dan Dan ‘Chang Fen’ with Minced Pork and Sichuan Preserved Sprout was a winner, and you should definitely get a plate of the classic pork wontons too. There’s also a whole other massive menu of noodles and street food dishes we didn’t even get to on this occasion, but we’ll be back for sure.

If you’re a dim sum fan, BaoziInn should be next on the list.
