BAO LAUNCH GUEST CHEF SERIES

Amidst the height of the pandemic in May last year, BAO launched its rice-based delivery service – Rice Error. The lockdown project was a reimagined take on chi shang bian dang (lunch boxes found in Taiwan). One year on, what started as an impromptu delivery service has become a regular addition to BAO’s offering and the bao king and queens have decided to raise these boxes up a notch. Over the next five months, BAO will be offering Rice Error boxes created with the likes of Fuchsia Dunlop, Margot Henderson, Ixta Belfrage and Lisa Lov – a heavyweight lineup, to say the least!

First to take on the hobs, grills and steamers will be cook and food writer Fuchsia Dunlop, whose Sichuanese inspired box comes topped with home-style tofu and poached pork, served with BAO’s signature rice and a warm and special doubanjiang (chilli bean paste). Margot Henderson of Rochelle Canteen will offer either braised squid, crab and fennel or a classic mince and tatties in her box. In December, BAO will create their own Christmas box and in the new year chef Ixta Belfrage will chef up her take on chile rellenos. In February, renowned chef Lisa Lov will put together a box of tender tamarind-braised beef short rib, accompanied by pak choi, kimchi and a fudgy boiled egg marinated in soy, and crunchy aromats.

£1 from each box will be going to a charity of the chef’s choice, starting with Fuschia’s choice of charity, Hackney School of Food. Boxes will be available for home delivery through Deliveroo, click-and-collect and on the menu at their Hackney, Kings Cross, Soho, and Southwark restaurants.
