flying high and riding the waves of praise are London three piece FAMY, who are signed to Transgressive Records. They have a knack for creating anthemic pop songs that could sit easily in any block buster or slow motion scene where Ryan Gosling is shot dead in the chest to die a slow painful death. Thanks FAMY, you guys rock! Band of the Month for October people…How did Famy come to be born & what how would you describe your sounds & influences?
We met at school in South France so hot weather bands like the sandpipers or beach boys were a starting point for us. Then we moved to London and discovered rock and roll so that had its effect too. We just thought what would a rock band from south france sound like and then started writing.
Tell us how you tackle the song writing process?
We all chat about what we’d like to say, then Bruce writes the songs and together we all work them over a bit.
How was your festival season, what’s been you highlights?
It was great, thank you! But we still feel like we prefer playing in front of our own crowd than playing to festival crowds. The best part of our festivals was we took a selfie with Kelis at Leeds.
Your latest single ‘Friends Home’ follows ‘Ava’, what’s this track all about?
Friends Home was a song that we wrote and recorded to be a b-side for the Ava single/EP we put out. Our label transgressive liked it so much they wanted to give it its own release so we accepted to having it as a single. It was the last song to be written as part of what became the whole Econo writing period so putting it on its own pedestal is a nice way to show a small indication of where we might be going as a band.
What’s the plan for the rest of the year?
We just finished touring the UK which was a great blessing so we have some thinking to do. We would like to create a couple more videos for a couple more songs from We Fam Econo and then we’ll see how we feel. We might do another tour or simply go and make our 2nd record.
What new music are you listening to?
Famy they play The Yard on 7th October. Be there!
