People of Thamesmead, you’ll want to keep one eye on the sky as a balloon artwork will be floating over the area over the next month. Fields of EveryWhen, created by M+R (Neil Musson and Jono Retallick), is a collage of pieces, including embroidery and drawing, created by the local Thamesmead community over a two year period that tell a story about the area and represent a time in its history. M+R chose to use the balloon form as it was the first method use to look down on and photograph Thamesmead and also thanks to its proximity to Royal Arsenal, Thamesmead was also protected by barrage balloons during WW2. As well as taking to the sky over Southmere Park, Birchmere Park, Crossways Park and Gallions Reach, the balloon will also be exhibited its side so you’ll be able to step inside and see the art up close.
