Auld Hag is Opening the First Scottish Deli in London

Scottish scran is coming to Angel with the Shoap, the new deli from Auld Hag

Glaswegian Gregg Boyd, the man behind Auld Hag, has been flying the flag for Scottish food in the capital for the past few years, starting out delivering haggis by bike and graduating to pop-ups and residencies across the city. Now he’s taking things to the next level by opening London’s very first Scottish deli.

The Shoap (from the Scottish slang for ‘shop’) will be stocked with the best produce from across Scotland, including Glasgow’s Bare Bones Chocolate; charcuterie from East Coast Cured in Leith; preserves from the Isle of Arran; and a range of cheeses salts, cakes, biscuits, Mackie’s crisps, haggis, square sausage and Stornoway black pudding. The deli counter will also be filled with Dundee cake, Ecclefechan tarts, shortbread and tablet for all your sweet treat needs.

There’ll be plenty of goodies available to eat in too. Glasgow morning rolls, baked in-house, will be filled with square sausage and tattie scones, and then come spring, there’ll be more sandwiches on offer (filled with the likes of Aberdeen Angus topside and Arbroath smokies); soups like Cullen Skink velouté, scotch broth, and lentil & smoked ham hock; and lunch specials like Scottish wild mushrooms & pearl barley and haggis with tattie puree will pop-up on the menu. Come evening, you’ll able to swing by for snacks like mince on toast, garlic butter langoustines and crispy potatoes with Isle of Mull cheddar.

Drinks-wise, you’ll be able to pick up Rapscallion softies, made using Scottish fruit; coffee from Caora Dhubh Coffee Company on the Isle of Skye; and beer on draught and in cans from a range of Scottish breweries, like Overtone, Newbarns, Tennants and Simple Things Fermentations. Basically it’s gonna be your one-stop-shoap for all things Scottish.
