The Wicked duo will be starring in Sunday in the Park with George
Some big news for Wicked lovers and musical theatre fans – after playing Glinda and Fiyero on the big screen, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are reuniting on stage next year to star in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. The musical features a fictionalised version of artist Georges Seurat, who becomes so obsessed with finishing his masterpiece ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ that he scorns his fellow artists and neglects his lover Dot.
The production, which is being directed by Marianne Elliot (who directed Bailey in another Sondheim musical, Company, in the West End in 2028), will be playing at the Barbican in the summer of 2027, with tickets going on sale this May. Given how many fans Grande and Bailey have, plus the fact that the last Sunday in the Park with George production in London (starring Jake Gyllenhaal) was cancelled because of the pandemic, this is going to be one hot ticket.
