We’re pretty partial to a Pernil (pork shoulder, tomato and avo) Arepa from Arepa & Co in Haggerston so it’s great to hear that they’re opening up a second site on Paradise Row in Bethnal Green in March. Gus and Kathe, the husband and wife team behind Arepa & Co, will be taking over the Paradise Garage site and will have a whole bunch of new dishes from Venezuela and beyond.
Arepas will still be central to the menu of course and if you’ve never had one, they’re like a flat roll made from corn (so 100% gluten and wheat free) and filled with the likes of chicken, beef or roast vegetables. We also like the sound of the steamed corn dough balls and the puff pastry parcels as well as the signature Pabellón, a traditional dish of shredded beef with black beans, fried plantain, rice and cheese.
They’re promising a big selection of rums and weekend brunch too so sounds like there’s plenty to get stuck into – let’s hope they bring the Venezuelan sunshine with them!
