Despite being hit hard by the pandemic, one of London’s leading off-West End theatres in the heart of Hackney has got BIG plans for the future. And seeing as it’s difficult to get people inside, the Arcola Theatre in Dalston has decided to take itself outside instead by opening a new outdoor performance and bar space. Arcola Outside is being designed by multi-award-winning stage designer Jon Bausor and it’ll include flexible socially distanced seating and a roof, meaning it can be used all year round. And in keeping with Arcola’s sustainable ethos, it’ll use a lot of reclaimed and recycled materials.
If you’re keen to make sure this London theatre stays thriving you can show your support by becoming a monthly supporter or with a one-off donation. And if you really feel like splashing the cash, you could donate £500 by naming a bench outside Arcola Outside and receive a personalised plaque as well as some other perks. They hope to restart shows (including a Hackney-wide festival) later this year so, quite literally, watch this space.
