APOTHECARY TO OPEN IN SHOREDITCH

Merchants Tavern is out and Japanese izakaya Apothecary is moving in. The name of the new spot might be a nod to the building’s history as a Victorian apothecary shop but it’ll be a contemporary take on a Tokyo tavern, Shoreditch-style, with lots of exposed brick, a wood burning stove, a robata kitchen counter, and handcrafted wooden screens throughout the 130-cover space.

Drinks are the focus at izakayas and at Apothecary the list will feature local and Japanese beers, hot and cold sake, wine, and Asian-influenced cocktails like Whisky Highball (Toki Whisky, soda & Genmaicha tea) and the Sweet Pea (tequila, lemon, sweet pea, soda & absinthe). There’ll be a range of small plates to snack on whilst you drink, including robata grilled skewers, sushi, sashimi and hirata steamed buns. And as Spiritland co-founder Dominic Lake is involved in the venue, you can bet the sound system and the DJ sessions on Friday and Saturday nights will be on point.
