As well as all the good stuff inside the building, the Natural History Museum is also home to five acres of garden, which will now be transformed into its own exhibit as plans for the Urban Nature Project have been given the go ahead. Once finished, it’ll be a centre for urban wildlife research and conservation, and a space for the public to explore native habitats.
The aim is to get people engaged with nature and to understand our impact on it. Sir David Attenborough is backing the project and his words ‘The future of the natural world, on which we all depend, is in your hands’, will be set in bronze in the space. You don’t want to let David down, do you? Dippy the Diplodocus, who spent some time in the museum’s main hall, is also joining in with a cast of the dino planned for the East Garden. The project isn’t going to be completed until 2023 but we reckon it’ll be worth the wait.
