An Ex-St. John and Rochelle Canteen Team Has Opened Dockley Road in Bermondsey

The new spot is in producer hotspot Spa Terminus

There’s so much good food being made and sold in Spa Terminus in Bermondsey – residents include Neal’s Yard Dairy, Natoora, The Kernel, Ham and Cheese Co, Gimlet Drinks and Farmer Tom Jones – so it makes sense that a new neighbourhood restaurant has also opened there.

Dockley Road has been founded by chef Emily Chia (ex-St. John and Joe Beef) and GM Klaudia Weisz (ex-Rochelle Canteen) along with Alex Keys (ex-St. John, Rochelle Canteen and co-owner of Farmer Tom Jones) and Tom Jones (of Farmer Tom Jones), who’s supplying meat for the restaurant. Emily showcases produce from the restaurant’s neighbours on the menu, where she’s doing dishes like:

  • “banh mi” terrine
  • bitter leaves and quince
  • mussels, dulse and cider
  • gratin dauphinoise “cacio e pepe”
  • beef and Kernel stout hot pot
  • smoked eel and beetroot romesco
  • sorrel sorbet
  • lemon steamed sponge and custard

There’s also a blackboard with sharing dishes, like grilled brill head with brown butter and FTJ flat iron, on offer. Nick Strangeway has designed the cocktail menu, with the wine list referencing the team’s past employers, friends and neighbours.

This celebration of their journey and their location has been baked into every part of Dockley Road. As co-founder Alex says, “There is a menu wall in the toilets showing the people and places that we have taken inspiration from and worked with on our journey. We have all worked together in different guises in the past and we want Dockley to feel familiar with a real sense of our hospitality personalities.”
