AN APERITIVO BAR IS OPENING UNDERNEATH LINA STORES

Bar Lina is the latest project for the iconic Italian deli group

Over the past few years Lina Stores has been brightening up different parts of the city with its iconic green-and-white, opening pasta restaurants in Soho, King’s Cross, Marylebone, the City and Clapham (they’ve even got two in Tokyo). Now attention has been turned back to W1 for the newest opening – a ‘hidden’ aperitivo bar underneath the original Brewer Street deli, which dates back to 1944.

Bar Lina will be taking over what used to be the shop’s fresh pasta kitchen and once you’ve made it downstairs, past the shelves laden with Italian goodies, you’ll find an intimate bar seating 28 that has taken design cues from Italy during the 1960s -1980s; think dark red, marble and moody lighting. The drinks menu will also reference Italian classics with cocktails like basil gimlets, negronis and Syracuse martinis made with Sicilian tomato alongside spritzes and Italian wines from independent and low-intervention growers.

Given that the deli upstairs is stocked with the best Italian produce, it’s not surprising what’ll feature on the snack menu – cheeses, cured meats and small plates like beef crudo, fried gnudi and truffle crostini. Speaking of upstairs, the space will be flipped into a 12-cover wine bar during the evenings, serving more of that excellent deli produce alongside Italian wines. So whether you want vino or a cocktail, Bar Lina will have you covered.
