With a name that makes us talk like a cartoon vampire, Indie-twee Torontonians Alvvays seem to perform with the perfect amount of nonchalant energy. The quintet’s latest single ‘Party Police’ gives an unusual Victoria Bergsman fronted Joy Division aura that’s as effortlessly graceful as it is impressive.
Singer Molly Rankin’s melancholic vocals add a wistful edge to an intricate yet floaty wall of sound and the result is undeniably beguiling, no wonder the London leg of their current tour went faster than our willpower to try dy January. That being said there is no need to fret, they’ll be back in London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on the 11th of September. Phew!
