Alsatian-Inspired Restaurant and Wine Bar July Is Coming to Fitzrovia

Though it’s named after a summer month, July will open on Charlotte Street in the spring

Many great food businesses were born out of lockdown – remember all the meal kits? – and July, a new Alsatian-inspired restaurant and wine bar, is one of them. Founders Solynka Dumas and Julian Oschmann, who lived in the same apartment block in Berlin during lockdown, bonded over a love of entertaining, which turned into hosting dinners for friends, which has evolved again into a fully-fledged restaurant.

July, opening on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia in April, will be an all-day spot with Holly Hayes (ex-40 Maltby Street) leading the kitchen. Her menus will have a big focus on seasonal produce and comfort food, with pastries and coffee available in the morning, followed by sandwiches and homemade soups at lunchtime (expect the likes of roast beef, horseradish crème fraiche and watercress sandwiches and nettle and spinach soup with smoked bacon). On Saturdays, she’ll serve up a special, family-style whole roast Fosse Meadows chicken with homemade mayo.

In the evenings, there’ll be snacks, cheese, charcuterie and small plates on offer, alongside a low-intervention wine list curated by sommelier Honey Spencer, featuring bottles from small European producers. Sounds like July will be a great addition to Charlotte Street’s strong collection of restaurants.
