ALEXANDRA PALACE TO HOST WORLD’S FIRST DRIVE-IN OPERA

Even when lockdown measures start to lift, we’re still going to have to live with some social distancing measures for some time, so companies are having to come up with innovative ways to operate. The English National Opera and Alexandra Palace have come up with world-first solution for live entertainment….drive-in opera performances.

The ENO is going to stage a series of adapted productions at Ally Pally in September, including La Boheme and The Magic Flute, where the performers will be safely spaced out on stage and the audience will watch from their cars. There’ll be capacity for around cars, with those on motorbikes and bicycles also allowed. It’s all a bit experimental but if it’s a success the ENO will try and replicate the events across the country.
