THE DIAMOND SUN

RELEASED 13th AUGUST 2012, HEAVENLY RECORDINGS

Stealing Sheep are either the three pagan witches who inhabit Jimmy Page’s thoughts, or those who did their whispering into Syd Barrett’s mind, its hard to decide which. Either way, they have a truly unique, pleasantly unsettling sound. ‘Into the Diamond Sun’ touches on baroque, Gothic and pastoral elements, with a wide range of sounds and textures, all wrapped up in beautiful, three part harmonies from the three female members.

This is certainly not rock music, more like being sucked into a 60s psychedelic whirlpool. It definitely has a watery quality, partly due to the offbeat, unconventional drumming and warm, reverb soaked guitar tones. ‘The Garden’ and ‘Genevive’ may be the most commercial and immediate moments, toward the end things get really trippy – by the time they’re singing “you look so lizardlike,” on ‘Tangled up in Stars’ we’re touching freakout territory. So light your joss sticks, lie back on your best shag pile and get ready to take a trip, maaaaan.
