San Diego’s finest pop rockers Crocodiles are back with a new album titled Crimes Of Passion, and trust us they’re zestier than ever.

First noted for their edgy subject matters and compelling live shows, Crocodiles have never hidden away from the face of controversy, well after all how many other bands hit the stage with Gary Glitter rumbling through the PA? Crimes Of Passion sticks to this head turning formula, the romantic track Marquis De Sade refers to the famous French aristocrat who was noted for scandal and his lucrative sexual writings. Deep eh? This offbeat content combined with psych solos and throbbing baselines give the album a sharp personality.

As expected we get a heavy dose of snarly punk attidute, which comes through in the aptly named tunes Cockroach and Gimme Some Annihilation. The variety of styles within the album comes off refreshingly well. The album ends in a three minute lull of swooping guitars and delicate vocals in the form of Un Chant D’amour – a track which is based on Jean Genet’s 1950’s film A Song Of Love. The film was band due to heavy homosexual content… ties in with the album title doesn’t it?

Many bands have recently been accused of releasing half-hearted albums, but with Crocodiles it’s evident that their heart and soul went into this. The emotion fuelled vocals during Heavy Metal Clouds tell us this. There’s always been an air of cool that’s drifted around Crocodiles, but with Crimes Of Passion, they’ve moved into fifth gear and we can’t wait to hear it live during the upcoming UK tour.
