albert adria to open cakes & bubbles

Albert Adria, owner of Barcelona’s Michelin-starred Tickets and former world’s best pastry chef, is returning to London after a successful pop up here back in 2016. Albert, who worked with his brother Ferran at the legendary El Bulli, has chosen the same spot, Hotel Cafe Royal, for his dessert-only restaurant which is to be called Cakes & Bubbles. It’s both his first restaurant outside Spain and his first sweets-focused spot so make no mistake – this is BIG news indeed.

As you may be able to work out from the name, there’ll be plenty of puds on offer, in Adria’s signature playful style, including a hazelnut and white chocolate cake made to look like a wheel of cheese; airwaffles with caramelised bananas; and chocolate ninoyoyaki cake balls, as well as more traditional pastries such as egg flan with dark caramel and pineapple cake with palm honey.

As for the bubbles part, you’ll be able to get a range of champagnes and sparkling wines by the glass, and if you want to go all out, by the bottle too. Dessert and champagne? Sounds like our kinda place.

Opens November 2018
