A New-Wave Caff Is Coming to De Beauvoir

And it’s named after a dog

Opening tomorrow on a quiet N1 street, Albers is billing itself as a modern take on a classic café – with “quite good grub”. The concept comes from a team of foodies and furniture makers with CVs that include Jolene, Noble Rot Mayfair and St. JOHN and who want to position Albers as a real neighbourhood hangout.

Lunch at Albers (12pm onwards) will look like a selection of hearty, traditional café dishes – such as cheese on toast (with pickled walnut) and ham, egg and chips – alongside the likes of butterflied mackerel with vadouvan, cucumber and kohlrabi, and charred beans with peas, pecorino and baby butterhead salad.

After 6pm, Albers will transition to more bistro-style dining, with a menu that’ll include:

  • Marinated aubergine, peppers and hazelnuts
  • Ragu and beef dripping toast
  • Tomato, ricotta and chard cannelloni
  • Pollock, white beans and nduja fried bread
  • Lamb, courgettes and potatoes
  • Pump Street chocolate mousse and buckwheat

The team is planning to make Albers an all-day spot soon, after which it will open at 8am with a breakfast offering of pastries and butties. In the meantime, you can drop by for lunch or dinner every day (except Mondays). If you aren’t already sold on the food, we’ve spotted they’ve got £5 negronis – surely that’ll clinch it.
