When we hear news that Liberty is yet again collaborating with another fashion super giant – we get excited. But that old London store of floral fabric fame has taken the collaboration status up a mega notch, by joining forces with Swedish powerhouse Acne Studios.
Curated by co-founder and creative director Jonny Johansson, the 12 piece collection, which heavily features the iconic Acne ‘Mape’ leather jacket have been covered in the most exclusive Liberty prints such as…and not surprisingly the ‘Jonny’ a block paisley print made during the 1890s, and the ‘Eva’ a Japanese inspired fabric, used during the 1880s, a typical aesthetic of the movement at the time, predominately in furnishing.
Not only leather, the collection features easy tees, tanks, sweats, overalls and dresses, including accessories…and of course silk scarves.
Johansson talks about this love for Liberty and how the collaboration came together “I’m obsessed with digging in archives and morphing elements of design history with our universe. I have a personal and long history with Liberty prints, having used them as a source of inspiration in my early years as a designer. When we started exploring Liberty’s extensive heritage for this project, it almost felt like an overwhelming voyage. We realized we had to come up with a strong contrast in order to make sense of it, so the team and I picked one favourite print each and integrated them with some of our classic leather pieces”.
The show stopper is obviously the Mape jacket, featuring all three prints, panelled across the super soft leather, embellished with ‘LA’ in Swarovski crystals across the back. The jacket fuses together the old and new creating the standout piece, the classic shape is the perfect statement to be worn over a semi-sheer silk and a pair of metallic heels.
