Last year the pandemic wreaked havoc among the British cheese industry as farmhouse and artisan cheesemakers lost huge chunks of business from restaurant closures, leaving them with lots of product and nowhere for it to go. In an effort to help, The Specialist Cheesemakers Association, Academy of Cheese and the Guild of Fine Food teamed up to create virtual cheese festival, the British Cheese Weekender. And now it’s back for 2021. Running across the last weekend in April the festival will feature a range of online activities, including tastings, talks, farm tours, chef demos and workshops on cheese and booze pairings.
