They’ve already got one five-star property overlooking Hyde Park and now the Mandarin Oriental group is opening a second, but no less luxurious, one on Hanover Square. Originally slated to open in 2021, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will now be with us this winter and will boast 50 rooms and suites plus 78 private residences, as well as a spa with a 25-metre indoor pool, sauna and treatment space.
Michelin-starred, Korean-American chef Akira Back, who has 20 restaurants and lounges around the world to his name, will be heading up the food and drink offering at the hotel, with four different concepts. These include:
- Akira Back – the main all-day restaurant with 148 covers and a menu reflecting his Korean heritage and modern interpretation of Japanese food, featuring some his signature dishes, like the AB Tuna Pizza’ with umami aioli made with ponzu sauce, tuna sashimi, micro shiso & white truffle oil.
- Dosa – a 14-seater counter restaurant serving contemporary Korean food.
- ABar Lounge – a cocktail bar serving snacks, with live DJs performing in the evenings.
- ABar Rooftop – a bar with Asian-influenced cocktails and views over the city.
