Fancy throwing some shapes in the fruit and veg aisles? Then you’re in luck. For one evening only, Woody’s Fresh Picks, the fruit and veg shop that’s kept Stoke Newington Church Street stocked up on courgettes and satsumas for years, is getting a different kind of delivery: a disco ball, a live DJ set and a VIP guest list.
The takeover is courtesy of Gosh!, the veg-led food brand, staging a rave dedicated entirely to vegetables. The Flag Twins (the DJ duo formerly known as The Dukes of Peckham) are on the decks, falafel canapés will be doing the rounds, alongside vegetable juice shots and complimentary cocktails, all staged among the shop’s own crates of fresh produce.
It’s the latest move from Gosh!’s Mad About Veg campaign, built on the argument that vegetables deserve better than being the thing you eat because you’re supposed to. Caroline Hughes, the brand’s Marketing Director, explains it further: “We are unapologetically mad about veg. Not in a sensible, five a day way, but in a ‘turn a fruit and veg shop into a rave venue’ kind of way.”
The rave is happening on Thursday 16th July, 7-9pm, at 174 Stoke Newington Church Street. Entry itself is free and first-come, first-served. Pre-book a ticket on Resident Advisor if you want guaranteed entry
Turnip the Volume, the beet’s about to drop.
