A New Restaurant Is Opening Inside Liberty to Celebrate its 150th Anniversary

It’ll be the first stand-alone restaurant from caterers Goose + Berry

Liberty is a bonafide London institution and this year the department store is celebrating a big milestone birthday. 150 is a lot of candles to fit onto a cake, so Liberty isn’t doing that, it’s marking the anniversary by opening a new restaurant instead. Seventy Five at Liberty, named after its founding year, 1875, is being opened on the store’s second floor by catering company Goose + Berry.

Given that Liberty has such a distinctive aesthetic, Seventy Five is certainly going to look the part, with a bespoke fabric ceiling installation; wall panels featuring Chinoiserie motifs and Persian garden illustrations; and Liberty prints and fabrics in burgundy, pink and green inside. The walls of the restaurant will also be decorated with works from an ongoing Artist in Residence series, beginning with Sir Quentin Saxby Blake, where all the pieces will be available to buy.

Head Chef Joe Holness (ex-Fera at Claridge’s and Da Terra) is heading up the kitchen at Seventy Five, serving a modern British menu that showcases locally and sustainably-sourced seasonal ingredients, including honey from Goose + Berry’s own hives. You can expect dishes like:

  • goat’s cheese and almond croquettes
  • torched mackerel with pickled carrot and chervil sauce
  • Swaledale chicken breast with salsify and thyme
  • Hampshire pork chop with fresh herb salsa verde
  • chocolate mousse with preserved cherries

There’ll also be a brunch menu running all day, plus an afternoon tea from Head Pastry Chef Lizzie Ross that nods to Liberty’s arts and crafts heritage. And if you’re just dropping in for a drink, there’ll be cocktails inspired by the store’s LBTY fragrance collection on offer too.
