A New Dedicated Sake and Wine Bar is Opening in Angel

SANE puts fine wine and premium sake on the same list

Angel has a new drinks destination in SANE, London’s first bar dedicated solely to sake and wine. It’s the work of sommelier Maxime Maiano, who’s spent the last four years in Japanese and Michelin-starred kitchens.

SANE puts sake and wine on the same footing, and it’s not just those two either, there’s a big selection of Asian spirits like soju and even fresh makgeolli. Food-wise, the menu takes a similarly eclectic thread, with gochujang gazpacho, crab rillettes and smashed Jersey royals all sitting on the same page. If that sounds overwhelming, fear not, the team can suggest pairings, and there are sommelier-guided tastings too. It also operates as its own importer, giving direct access to small-production wines and rarer sakes that would otherwise be harder to find in London. It’s a timely opening too, landing right in the middle of London’s growing love affair with sake, which we tipped as one of the city’s biggest drinks trends for 2026.

SANE is opening in Camden Passage, which has historically been a bit hit and miss when it comes to food and drink, but is now having a moment. Uchi Bake just opened, bringing its sandos and hojicha cheesecakes to the street, while Yard Sale Pizza, one of London’s OG pizza joints, has also landed there. Worth keeping an eye on this corner of Islington.
