Anna Higham, the pastry chef behind Quince Bakery (queues down the road most weekends since it opened in 2024), is opening a second Islington spot. Clementine is a 20-cover all-day café landing directly opposite Quince on New North Road, open Wednesday to Sunday for breakfast, brunch and lunch, built on the same seasonal, British-produce-led approach that made the bakery such a hit.
Expect tattie scones with scrambled Cacklebean eggs and Scotch pancakes with Abbey Farm butter in the mornings, a Ploughman’s of Kirkham’s Lancashire and Gothelney ham or a chicken and tarragon pie at lunch, and warm scones with Ivy House cream throughout the day. There’s a bespoke Stella’s sausage made with Quince’s own breadcrumbs and quince paste, served in a sandwich on Quince’s Batch bread. Head chef Marcus Westlake joins from Forno, having previously worked at Brawn, developing the menu alongside Higham before taking the reins in the kitchen.
The interiors come from Dan Wilson Studio, the team behind Quince’s own fit-out, bringing the same oak, slate and Shaker-inspired design language into a new space, with a green facade and awning to mark it out from across the road. Like Quince before it, Clementine’s build-out was partly funded by a crowdfunding campaign that raised over £30,000 earlier this year.
