A Museum of Brutalist Architecture Is Coming to London

It’ll be the first institution of its kind in the UK

Brutalism fans have a lot to love in London already thanks to buildings like the Barbican, the National Theatre, the Trellick Tower and the Hayward Gallery, but soon they’ll have a whole museum dedicated to the architectural style to explore. Education and design agency Urban Learners has been running the Museum of Brutalist Architecture as a digital project, and after securing National Lottery Heritage Funding, it’s getting a permanent, physical home.

MoBA will be housed inside the Assembly Hall of Camden’s Acland Burghley School, which was built in the mid-1960s to a design by architects Howell Killick Partridge and Amis. The Grade II-listed hexagonal hall has been in need of some love and attention in recent years and now with the ‘A Hall for All’ project receiving funding, it’s being restored with upgraded facilities for performances and a space for MoBA. We don’t have an opening date as yet but construction is expected to begin in the spring.
