A MODERN NEPALESE RESTAURANT IS OPENING THIS APRIL

From the same team behind Hot Stone Steak and Sushi Bar, The Gurkhas will open on Great Portland Street this spring

With Hot Stone and Kibako already under his belt, Nepal-born Shrabaneswor Rai is moving onto a new project with a modern Nepalese spot in Fitzrovia, The Gurkhas. The opening reflects Rai’s longtime wish to launch a London restaurant centred around Nepalese cuisine, especially given as there are only a handful of Nepalese restaurants in the city.

Chef Joe Allen will be heading up the kitchen, drawing on his experience of travelling across Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara to assemble a menu of traditional Nepalese dishes designed to share. Expect the likes of:

  • Kukura ko Jhol momo (steamed chicken dumplings in a tomato and soybean soup)
  • Gurhka pickles
  • Mutton sekuwa with onion and coriander
  • Chargrilled monkfish choila
  • Pork chop with cisnu (nettle)

Getting its name from the Nepalese soldiers of the same name, The Gurkhas will support The Gurkha Welfare Trust, donating 50p from every Gurkha pickle dish sold to aid Gurkha veterans, their families, and communities.
