A Major Nan Goldin Exhibition Is Coming to London

It’s her first institutional exhibition in the UK since 2002

Following a presentation of The Ballad of Sexual Dependency in its entirety at Gagosian at the start of 2026, to coincide with the photobook’s 40th anniversary, we’re getting another big Nan Goldin exhibition this year. As part of the Southbank Centre’s 75th anniversary, The Hayward Gallery is hosting You Never Did Anything Wrong, featuring works by the acclaimed American artist and activist from the past five decades.

Known for her unflinching and raw style of photography, which helped transform the medium, Goldin has spent her career documenting personal relationships, addiction and queer communities. Her intimate images explore the complexity of life and have formed an autobiography she calls “a record of my life that no one can revise”.

Speaking about the exhibition, Rachel Thomas, Roden Chief Curator, says: “While UK audiences may have seen glimpses of Nan’s story, this major exhibition will offer a long overdue institutional-scale immersion into the world of a true revolutionary. The Hayward’s show extends an invitation to experience work that is essential for understanding the interconnectedness of personal experience and political action, revealing the human condition in all of its beauty and fragility.”

The show doesn’t open until November, so in the meantime, you can check out all these other major exhibitions on in London.
