Jurkish makes its Brick Lane debut
Jurkish is heading to the East End for a new residency this month, landing inside Ninety One on Brick Lane.
If you read our Get Mash-Up: The Best Fusion Food in London round-up, you’ll know that cross-cultural cooking isn’t just a gimmick anymore – it’s an exciting part of London’s food scene right now, and it’s only getting better. Jurkish is a pretty solid example of why, taking familiar dishes and ingredients and colliding them into something new.
It’s been a steady rise for Nazli Ramadan’s Jamaican and Turkish-Cypriot concept. What started life as a pop-up at Jumbi in Peckham quickly found a more permanent footing at John the Unicorn on Rye Lane, followed by a second site in Brixton. Now, for the first time, Jurkish is venturing beyond its south London roots with a new residency inside the pub at the Old Brewmaster’s House.
The menu that’s earned Jurkish its cult following is making the move too. Expect the likes of plantain hummus, curry goat manti and pistachio künefe brownies, alongside meze plates such as honey-glazed halloumi and böregi. Pides come loaded with toppings like oxtail ragù or sucuk, delivering that signature cross-cultural hit. There’s also the oxtail dutty chips for good measure.
There’s also something new for Brick Lane: a Sunday roast with a Jurkish twist. Choose between Jurk chicken, mint Jurk lamb shank, or a hot honey pumpkin option, all served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy that’s had the full Jurkish treatment.
Ramadan has spent over a decade shaping the concept around her heritage, so we’re expecting big, bold flavour bombs…
