A GOOD DEEDS CAFE IS POPPING UP IN HACKNEY

We all wish coffee was a bit cheaper in London – or, even better, free. Well, that’s what Hackney’s latest pop-up is offering. Almost. For three days this summer, the NeighbourGood Cafe will be switching out cash payments for good deed pledges, meaning you can get your morning coffee free of charge if you offer a helping hand to someone in your community.

The pop-up will be serving all the coffee shop classics, from locally produced hot or cold drinks to cakes and pastries. To help yourself to the goodies, you’ll first need to write down your suggested good deed and pin it to the ‘pledge board’ with suggestions including offering to dog sit for a neighbour, pledging to support a local business or charity, or helping fix a fence. Visitors are invited to hang out with their drinks and play some board games, read books about Hackney, and feel inspired by stories of local ‘heroes’ – plus, they’re dog friendly. So if you’re looking for a way to get more involved in the local community and love free stuff, this one’s for you.
