A FLOATING LIDO COULD BE COMING TO CANARY WHARF

London is already home to some swimming spots but a new pool could be coming to town and it sounds epic. Plans have been submitted to transform an old Dutch barge into a floating lido, complete with a 25-metre open air swimming pool, and moor it in West India Quay. The idea behind the project, called Water Cures Spa, is to create a new spa culture in the UK centred around physical and mental wellbeing.

The pool would be heated but filled with naturally filtered rather than chlorine-treated water, making it more like a wild swimming spot. The barge will also be home to a plunge pool, Finnish sauna, a hammam, treatment rooms and a botanical space for exercise classes, with proposed opening hours of 6am – 11pm. The Canal & River Trust has given conditional approval for the mooring but there’s still a way to go, so don’t plan any late night dips just yet.
