BOXPARK Shoreditch Has Been Granted a Lease Extension

The Shoreditch venue was slated for closure but it’s been granted a reprieve – at least for now

After reporting the huge news that BOXPARK was closing its Shoreditch location after twelve years in operation – during which time it housed 250 independent brands, generated almost £100 million in revenue, attracted millions of visitors to the area and established itself as one of the city’s cultural hubs – because the Bishopsgate Goodsyard site where it’s located has been approved for redevelopment, it seems like there could be another twist in the tale.

First the NTIA has launched a campaign to save BOXPARK, not only because of the role it plays in the community and in the economy but also because redevelopment work won’t begin immediately, the site would be left derelict, likely for at least six months but possibly longer. As Michael Kill, CEO of the NTIA, said, “BOXPARK Shoreditch exemplifies the exact issue faced across the country with red tape and restrictive regulatory controls stalling business investment. This has to stop. People are fed up.”

Now it’s been announced that the venue has secured a lease extension, meaning it can trade until September 2025. Speaking about the extension, Ben McLaughlin, COO of BOXPARK, said, “The support we’ve received from the community has been nothing short of inspiring. The extension of our lease provides certainty to the 47 small, independent businesses, and hundreds of their employees across our Shoreditch site. We are absolutely thrilled to continue our journey in Shoreditch and remain committed to providing a platform for independent businesses and a vibrant space for our customers. We wouldn’t be here without our customers, so this giveaway is our way of saying thank you.”

We don’t yet know yet whether BOXPARK Shoreditch will get any more time to operate beyond September but the brand has already expanded into Camden, taking over Buck Street Market last year, and is moving into the City, with its BOXHALL concept opening in Liverpool Street in the spring.
