a black friday pop-up shop with nothing for sale

It may be an American tradition but our love of a good bargain has made Black Friday a big deal on our shores too, and it seems to get crazier every year. This time around giffgaff is doing things a bit differently by opening a Black Friday pop-up shop where nothing is for sale. Instead, you can place a pledge to use refurbished goods where possible in exchange for one of the store’s 100 refurbished items. Mel Fisher of Zero Waste Goods has helped curate the selection of ‘like new’ items, which includes iPhone and Samsung handsets, bicycles, jewellery, turntables, shoes and more.

The whole point of the store is to highlight ways to shop more sustainably, whether that’s choosing to use refurbished tech items or pieces made from recycled and surplus materials. Doing it on one of the biggest shopping days of the year is a big move and we like it.
