2019 is already shaping up to be big year for exhibitions – the V&A is holding big shows on Christian Dior and Tim Walker – and now the National Portrait Gallery has announced a major retrospective on US photographer Cindy Sherman. The exhibition will cover Sherman’s work from the mid-1970s up to the present day, looking at the way she explores appearance and identity. Over 150 pieces will be on display, including the Untitled Film Stills, 1977-80, which has not been on display in the UK before. Get this one in your diaries.
