Model Market is returning, bigger and better than ever
Model Market, open in a converted 1950s market in Lewisham, was one of south London’s most-loved street food spots before it closed in 2019. Seven years on and it’s making a return as part of the redevelopment of Lewisham Shopping Centre. The new Model Market will take design cues from the old one, namely the 1950s style, with retro shopfronts, string lights and nostalgic charm, but will still feel fresh.
German Kraft Brewery, which was originally founded in 2017 at Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle, will be operating the market, so you can expect the craft beer and social taproom atmosphere it’s become known for. German Kraft will also be curating the street food trader line-up, so you can be sure of good food too. Beyond food, Model Market will function as a social hub, offering co-working space, pop-ups, DJ sets, events and cultural programming.
Speaking about the market, Felix Bollen co-founder of German Kraft and MOSAIK said: “We’re excited to bring Model Market back to life as a next-generation social destination for Lewisham, a place that feels open, dynamic and deeply connected to the local community. We’ll be continuing the community social hub we ran in Elephant & Castle over the last 9 years”.
