Located
on Cambridge Circus, Vico is the new opening from the guys behind Bocca di Lupo, one of London’s best Italian restaurants, and Gelupo, almost certainly London’s best gelateria. Whereas Bocca is a fairly high end Italian, Vico is going for a more of a laid back, casual approach with a menu of pastas, pizzas and best of all, a whole section of fritti…i.e. lots of delicious fried things. We got stuck right into the fried section, polishing off potato, pecorino and mint croquettes and then Lasagnancino…yes, that is deep-fried lasagna and yes, it was amazing. Dragging ourselves away from the fried foods, we tucked into to a near-enough perfect spaghetti and meatballs, before the main event of a whole baked sea bass, still juicy from being cooked in white wine and served with crispy thin potatoes. Running over the road to the cinema (Vico is a great option for pre-theatre), we just had time to grab an ice cream from the takeaway Gelupo counter as we were leaving…salted caramel and bacio is pretty hard to beat.
