not to be confused with Mr Wu all-you-can-eat restaurant in Chinatown is newly opened Chai Wu, a high-end modern Chinese restaurant located on the fifth floor of Harrods. As you’d expect from the location, the restaurant space is pretty sleek with a mix of marble and timber used throughout and a charcoal grill in the middle where you can pull up a stool and watch the chefs at work. Many of the dishes are on the plush side too – think wagyu beef puffs and dim sum platters featuring a mix of seafood dumplings including lobster topped with caviar and truffled prawn. Even the ‘Chai Wu Fried Rice’ contained prawns and Alaskan king crab – no messing around here.
The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the restaurant’s signature Beijing duck – half a duck hand carved by the chef at your table and served with fresh pancakes and a whole host of sauces. The remainder of the duck is then carted back to the kitchen only to reappear a few minutes later minced and served on lettuce leaves. Although largely a Chinese menu, we also had some decent fresh sushi rolls and sashimi if you fancy something a bit lighter.
Being in Harrods and with some luxurious ingredients on offer much of the menu doesn’t come cheap but if you’re shopping in Harrods there’s a good chance you’ve got plenty of dollar to splash.
