Barnyard,
which opened early this year, is Ollie Dabbous’s second London restaurant but unlike Dabbous this one is a little more relaxed. Inside is small and simple with a menu to match, think comfort food, sharing dishes and a booze menu that features a quirky selection of shandies and shakes. We finally got around to visiting and kicked things off with a fruity Hedgerow Shandy made up of pink grapefruit, tonic, sloe gin and wyld wood cider. It’s recommended that each person choose two meaty dishes and a side, of the bunch the meaty sausage roll coated in a thin pastry with homemade piccalilli was the clear winner.
Charred broccoli vinaigrette and corn on the cob with salted butter and meadowsweet shouldn’t be missed either, nor should the Popcorn ice-cream with smoked fudge sauce. For a simple fast dinner (or to cure one’s hangover) Barnyard is a pretty safe bet.
