Ever wanted to see one of your favourite new bands in an unexpected venue? Fenech-Soler in a Leeds Mixed Martial Arts venue? Slow Club in the Panopticon in Glasgow? That’s what Nokia’s Lumia Live sessions hosted along with videographers La Blogotheque. London on the Inside popped along to see Everything Everything headline the sessions at Trinity Buoy Wharf lighthouse on Tuesday 1st October ahead of their UK Tour. Having not played in London for five months following a summer of festival appearances, the lucky 400 attendees of this intimate gig gave the band a warm welcome back ahead of their UK tour.
After taking a boat, coach or taxi we arrived at the atmospheric setting of Trinity Buoy Wharf which is across the river from the Millenium Dome or ’02 Arena’. The views and nautically themed venue provided a unique backdrop to the evening. Decorated with nautical ephemera, flashing lights, boats and pieces of rope, it became quite the intimate surrounding once everyone had gathered inside.
Opening the evening was Nick Jackson; a solo acoustic performer with a charming presence and even more charming songs. The lovely long haired folk singer from London has been touring and been played on BBC 6 Music with his beautiful debut track ‘Beauty’s in the Eye’.
The grand finale came in the form of bizarre but brilliant Everything Everything. Mixing high pitched and high octane vocals with beautifully crafted songs is what got them nominated for the Mercury Award. You genuinely can’t compare them to any other band and frontman Jonathan Higgs must have the lungs of a God to be able to sing so many varied notes at such high speed.
Following a full throttle performance from the Mancunian group Higgs stood and sang a solo acoustic performance from a podium in the middle of the crowd. At the end of the night everyone was three sheets to the wind setting sail to a very contrasting DJ set of UK Garage… How every night should end!
