Sanderson hotel has teamed up with Shoreditch based design collective Luna & Curious to create a Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea. Served in the Courtyard Garden on a bespoke crockery set designed for The Sanderson, the afternoon tea is quite the experience and features just the right amount of quirkiness mixed with some lovely grub.

The tea starts with a vintage book and a ridle and then you choose your tea. Tea is served in four different flavours in small decanter type bottles, we indulged in the Rhubarb and Custard flavoured tea which was quite something, it smelt and tasted like the boiled sweets we’d eaten as kids. If you do need sugar then you’ll find it in the music box amongst the ballerina dancing to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

The tea starts with a selection of sandwiches in rolled bread, our favourite was the cucumber and chive cream cheese on spinach bread. There are also savoury scones and mini quiches and then the sweet treats, OH the sweet treats. Everything from a liquid coconut drink served in a medicine style bottle (thankfully we didn’t grow in size) to a chocolate cup filled with green tea mouse and marshmallow mushrooms. It’s certainly quirky.

After you have cleared your tier you are then invited to “Jelly Wonderland” which is a cake trolley filled with different jellies so that you can help yourselves. One of the best arvo teas we’ve experienced in the city. £35pp
