From N16 to N1 – the man behind Dalston’s Jones & Sons, Andy Jones, has opened up his second restaurant in heart of Angel with a 70 cover space and an extra 24 out on the balcony. As you walk through the underpass of the shopping centre, you’ll notice the window in which ‘Jones & Sons’ sits, except it’s the kitchens. Puzzled? If you look up, you’ll see the massive sign for the Vue cinema and the balcony running adjacent is what you are looking for. So up the escalator we go to check out the new Jones & Sons location.

It’s much of the same looks-wise, with a similar decor and, cool, contemporary style to the Dalston location. The menu is no different either and taken care of by Head Chef Kieran Hope so yes, they will still be offering their Saturday bottomless brunches and of course their Sunday roast. Sat out on the balcony, it’s a good spot for people watching and of course an intimate setting for the company you are with.

Sea bass ceviche with avocado, coriander and mezcal is the type of starter we love – super fresh and light. The heritage tomato salad take us through the colour spectrum tomatoes offer, from yellow, to green and the classic red; a perfect dish for the warmer weather we’re currently basking in. Truffle gnocchi with wild mushrooms, shaved black summer truffle, wild rocket and Berkswell cheese are like little parcels of joy, rich in flavour and hugely satisfying.

The carnivore in us opted also for the 300g 28-day Herefordshire rib eye steak, cooked medium rare of course with a pile of thick cut, triple cooked chips – we were tempted to get the truffle fries but truffle overload might have occurred. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Chianti, we swear we forgot we were in London for a second sitting on that balcony.

Eton mess, a summer classic satisfied our sweet tooth and a portion that’s good for sharing for dessert. With a menu that will change every 6 to 7 weeks, there’s no getting tired of Jones & Sons. For us, it has that mix right where it’s lots more appealing than any chain and more affordable than some of the higher end places in the area.
