THE SONG THAT<br> PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING

psb1

Public Service Broadcasting seem to have a sort of eye for seeing beyond the surface level. Their magical tracks often mix samples and electronic music to forge something altogether new and wonderful.  We finally got around to asking them The Song That…

Got me into music…

Mostly because it’s the first song I can remember hearing in the back seat of the car and I used to get so excited when the snare roll started. It’s also got one of the best middle eights in history.

Reminds me of my favourite festival…

I remember seeing them do this at End of the Road in 201.. erm.. 1? Or maybe 2012. Either way, that’s a great festival and the last one I went to purely as a punter. It was the first time I’d heard this song as they hadn’t recorded it yet. On record it seems too slow, and they used an electric rather than the acoustic he used live. I preferred the acoustic, it gave it much more rhythm.

I love this year so far…

Just a brilliant, brilliant, funny, political, tuneful, clever song from one of the absolute masters.

I want played at my funeral…

Seems a bit irrelevant as I won’t be there to hear it. Maybe the Benny Hill music. Actually no, being more serious, I think the most beautiful piece of music ever written is Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. The main theme which has been used on everything from Raging Bull to The Godfather Pt 3. Vastly inappropriate for my life and my contribution on Earth, but hey ho, I’ll have that one please.

I would play in a set to impress…

I seem to be one of the few people in the world to have heard (and loved) Gene Washington & The Ironsides ‘Close To You’. It’s a great song.

Always gets me up and dancing…

Anything by the Beastie Boys, or Michael Jackson (Bad and before). Intergalactic would do it.

Sums me up…

How could one piece of music sum anyone up? I have no idea. Let’s just go with Lars Hollmer’s Kanske for a laugh.
