Smack bang in the heart of the West End, new wine bar and bistro Haymarket Wine House is now open, serving up affordable wines from around the world and an accessible French-inspired menu. The signature dish is the steak and frites – a butlers’ steak (aka the flat iron) priced at just ten quid, which can be served with rosemary salt or parmesan fries, sides like creamed spinach and green beans, and sauces such as bearnaise, green peppercorn and the house secret sauce. And yes there are plant-based options including a black bean quinoa burger for those off the meat.
The wine list roams across the globe with a range of grape varieties featured, and with more than 125 bottles on the list, there’s sure to be something you like. If you do have trouble choosing, you can always opt for the Wine Paddle – that’s three glasses of wine from smaller producers served with a trio of cheeses – so you can explore different types of wine and guess where they’re from.
