If you need to spice up your life this year, get on down to Bala Baya. Housed in the Union Street arches, Bala Baya is bringing a taste of Tel Aviv to London, and is the new restaurant from former Ottolenghi and Zest@JW3 chef Eran Tibi. Taking design inspo from the Bauhaus architecture of Tel Aviv, the place will be split in two; a fast-paced cafe downstairs and a 76 cover restaurant upstairs, complete with London’s first Gazoz bar (that’s a sparkling botanical drink FYI). With a custom-made pitta oven taking centre stage, the daytime menu will focus on breakfast pastries and pitta pockets with fillings like braised lamb neck, quince and pecorino. The evening menu sounds just as good with treats like salt baked salmon with tahini, aubergine with harissa and date glaze. and chocolate and hazelnut babka. And it gets better…to celebrate the opening, Bala Baya are knocking 50% OFF during their week-long soft launch. Happy new year indeed.
