28-50 OPENS IN COVENT GARDEN

Cantina Laredo is gone (thank god) and wine bar 28-50 has moved into the Covent Garden site. Once a three-strong group co-founded by chef Aggi Sverrisson sommelier Xavier Rousset, 28-50 shrunk back down to one site (still running in Marylebone although under different ownership) after Rousset left the business. Now it’s expanding once again thanks to the acquisition of the 180-cover Covent Garden space.

It’s a more modern and premium version of the wine workshop and kitchen in Marylebone, with more than 30 wines available by glass, carafe and bottle and a European food menu. You can expect dishes like corn-fed chicken breast with hispi cabbage, artichoke tempura with chermoula mayo, stone bass with shellfish bisque, duck confit with duck fat chips, and apple & rhubarb crumble with cinnamon ice cream.
