was once the pretty scumming Bar 23 on Stoke Newington Road – yep the one that was still open even after EFES – has been turned into a rather nice, little gem of a cocktail bar. Run by people who have the likes of The Dead Rabbit in NYC and Milk and Honey on their CV it’s cocktail list is short and sweet but covers all basis.

Inside the decor follows the vintage, speakeasy trend (although it’s currently having a refurb) and it almost feels like a basement only it has a whole wall of windows that open onto the street which means there’s a nice breeze on a summer eve.

Our favourite tipple was the Blood & Sand made up of scotch, sweet vermouth, cherry heering and orange it had just the right amount of sweetness whilst retaining its harsh kick. For something a little lighter try the Eastside Fizz with gin, lime, mint and cucumber.  There’s also craft beer, almonds and nibbles but we’ll be sticking to those cocktails thanks…
