Every so often we stumble across a gem we’d quite like to keep our own little secret, but then we get the urge to tell everyone we know. Our newest little gem sits behind Barbican Station – it’s almost unfindable which we love – and is a TINY little place of only 16 seats brought to you by Disappearing Dining Club.

DDC’s latest residency is the aptly named Little Quiet and it is a knockout. The dark doorway leaves you second guessing whether you’ve got the right spot but once inside you’ll feel right at home, cosy, warm and far from the city.

So what it’s all about? Well, Swedish Head Chef Fred Bolin combines Scandi techniques with classic French cooking in either a two, three or a six-course tasting menu. After a little surprise from the chef we started with celeriac soup with brown almond butter and parmesan, which had us thinking this was all about keeping it simple rather trendy. The tuna sashimi with radish salad, avocado and wasabi mayo was the talk of our table, thanks to its bright flavours and raw, clean freshness. The pan-fried sea bream with baked fennel, chorizo and saffron aioli was also excellent, stunning to look at and unashamedly easy to hoover up far quicker than our mothers would have liked.

The chocolate brownie and salted caramel with a popcorn parfait dessert sealed the deal for us… top notch food that was overwhelmingly satisfying, beautifully put together and lovingly consumed. Don’t be surprised to see the menu differ often but it’s all exciting stuff, including the wine, which we can vouch for as we’d tried quite a bit of it. It’s all about exploring in our book, especially when there are reasonably priced wines by the glass on offer.

Seek out Little Quiet for something exciting and just a bit special.
